Prince Charles Is Already Starting to Take Over for Queen Elizabeth

For the last 18 years, Queen Elizabeth has led the annual tribute to Britain’s fallen soldiers on the U.K.’s Remembrance Sunday, November 12. However, this year will be a little different.

On Wednesday, Buckingham Palace announced that this year she will just be observing with her husband Prince Philip, while her oldest son (and heir to the throne) Prince Charles carries out the deed.

During her 65-year reign, the Queen has only missed six opportunities to pay her respects in person at the central London war memorial, according to People.

Many are suspecting that the decision is a sign of Charles, 68, slowly transitioning into taking on more of her duties.

A source told People, “She wishes to be alongside the Duke of Edinburgh.” They will reportedly stand on the balcony of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office where Kate Middleton, Sophie Wessex, and Camilla normally stand.
